The altitude structure characteristics of glaciers are the value of structure characteristics of glaciers and its distribution pattern in different altitudes. The main indicators include the distribution of glacier at different altitudes, the equilibrium line altitude of glacier and the accumulation area ratio. Based on the second glacier cataloguing data, the three indicators above were calculated respectively, and the dataset of altitude structure characteristics of glaciers in China was developed. The dataset is consisted of the following data: (1) The percentage of glacier area to the total area per 50 m altitude in 12 mountain ranges, they are: Mt. Altai, Mt. Tianshan, Mt. Kailash, Mt. Hengduan, Mt. Karakorum, Mt. Kunlun, Mt. Nyainqntanglha, Mt. Pamir, Mt. Qilian, Mt. Qiangtang, Mt. Tanggul and Mt. Himalayas; (2) The Altitude of 58570 glacier Equilibrium places and Accumulation Area Ratio data which are based on the Second Chinese Glacier Inventory; (3) The linear equation and confidence level of glacier Equilibrium Line Altitude and mean area altitude in 180 river basins; (4) Glacier equilibrium line altitude field in western China; (5) The distribution of the accumulation area ratio in western China. The dataset was archived in .shp and .xlsx data formats, with data size of 11.3 MB (compressed into 1 data file, 7.19 MB). The analysis paper based on this dataset was published at the journal of Acta Geographica Sinica, Vol. 72, No.3, 2017.
