Abstract:

The dataset of “Assessment Dataset on Average Daily Precipitation Simulated by IPCC AR5 GCMs in China, 1996-2005” (APrec_AR5_GCMs_China_1996-2005) was developed on the precision of precipitation simulated by the Fifth IPCC AR5 (the Fifth Assessment Report of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change) GCMs (BCC, BNU, CanESM2, CCSM4, CNRM-CM5, CSIRO-Mk3.6.0, FGOALS-g2, GISS-E2-R, IPSL-CM5A-LR, MIROC5, MIROC-ESM, MIROC-ESM-CHEM, MPI-ESM-LR, MRI-CGCM3, NorESM1-M) and the Multi-Model Ensemble (MME), based on the observed precipitation from the 660 stations in China from 1996 to 2005. The datasets were generated according to the following procedure: (1) The simulated precipitation data in China were extracted from the GCMs datasets; (2) Average daily precipitations were calculated in GCMs from 1996 to 2005; (3) The bilinear interpolation method was used to calculate the GCMs simulated precipitation values in the 660 meteorological stations of China; (4) The MME’s precipitation data were calculated, which were the average of simulated precipitation values by GCMs in the same station; (5) The accuracy of the simulated precipitation values from the Fifth IPCC AR5 GCMs and MME was calculated using 4 indexes comparing with the observed precipitation data in the meteorological stations. The 4 indexes were correlation coefficient (R), deviation (BIAS), mean relative error (MRE) and root mean square error (RMSE). The discovery paper based on the dataset was published in the Journal of Geo-information Science in 2016 (No. 2, Vol. 18, 2016). The dataset is in .xlsx format and the total size is 673KB.
