Abstract：

The suburban area is a transitional region between urban built-up area and rural area. Due to the invasion of urban land, the most important features of urban fringe areas are mixed land use patterns and fragmented landscapes. Based on the Landsat TM images in 2015 and referring to the Google earth images, the boundary of suburban area in XiAn was defined according to the proportion of artificial surface, the proportion of cultivated land and the landscape pattern index in each block, then the land use classification dataset in XiAn’s suburban area in 2015 was developed. The dataset includes: (1) boundary data of XiAn suburban area; (2) land use classification data in the Xi’an suburban area, including artificial surface, farm land, forest land and the land type else. The dataset is archived in .shp data format, and consists of 14 data files with data size of 8.11 MB (Compressed to 4.78 MB in one single file). The analysis paper based on the dataset was published at Acta Geographica Sinica, Vol.73, No. 6, 2018.
