Abstract:
Based on daily observations and monthly outputs from 15 global climate models (GCMs) participating the Coupled Model Inter-comparison Project Phase 5 (CMIP5) for the historical and three Representative Concentration Pathways (RCP2.6, RCP4.5 and RCP8.5) scenarios, daily mean temperature and precipitation over six basins in the East Asian monsoon area of China for the climate change scenarios were simulated, yielding the submitted dataset. Statistical downscaling model for each individual GCM was first built by using generalized additive models (GAMs), and then Bayesian model averaging (BMA) was applied to integrate the 15 fitted downscaling models, finally, ensembles of daily mean temperature and daily precipitation for each basin under the historical and future emission scenarios were produced by stochastic simulation based on the BMA results. The dataset is able to reproduce extreme temperature and precipitation, which are rare events locating in tail ends of climatological distributions, therefore is useful for engineering design and hazard risk assessment in hydrology, ecology and environmental science. The spatial resolution of data is 0.5°X0.5°. The basin coverages are, specifically, 112.5°E‒119.5°E, 34.5°N‒42.5°N for the Haihe River Basin, 111.5°E‒121.5°E, 30.5°N‒36.5°N for the Huaihe River Basin, 116.5°E‒125.5°E, 38.5°N‒45°N for the Liaohe River Basin, 118.5°E‒121.5°E, 29.5°N‒32.5°N for the Taihu Lake Basin, 104°E‒110°E, 33.5°N‒37.5°N for the Weihe River Basin, 109.5°E‒116.5°E, 20.5°N‒27.5°N for the east Zhujiang River Basin and 102.5°E‒109°E, 20.5°N‒27.5°N for the west Zhujiang River Basin, respectively. The historical emission scenario spans 1970‒2000, and the RCP scenarios (RCPx.x) span 2020‒2050. Data are archived in the NetCDF (.nc) format. Data files are named in the form of “[variable]_[basin]_[scenario]_[start year]-[end year].nc”, in which the [variable] could be daily mean temperature (tas) or daily precipitation (pr). The tas and pr variables are stored in 4-dimensional arrays. The four dimensions are ensemble member (ens), time (time), latitude (lat) and longitude (lon). Each ensemble includes 50 members. In addition, the 5th, 10th, 50th, 90th and 95th percentiles (only the last three for pr) of each ensemble, namely q5, q10, q50, q90 and q95, are also provided, which are all 3-dimensional arrays of time, lat and lon. Data files can be read by the GrADS software. The original dataset consist of 56 data files with a data size of 25.4 GB (11.3 GB for 20 WinRAR files).
