Abstract:
The Eco-region of Pacific Ocean Islands (POIS) is consisted of a series of islands in Pacific Ocean from 131o7'13〞E,to 109 o13'40〞W,and from 30 o32'42〞S,to 28o24'5〞N. Based on the Digital Earth images (2015), including satellite data from Digital Globe, CNES/Astrium and Landsat TM/ETM, 4912 islands in this region had been identified. In which, the smallest island is 97 m2, and the biggest one is 10,662.54 km2, the Viti Levu island. Which is located at 177 o55'56.87〞E, 17 o49'24.5〞S in the Republic of Fiji. There are more than 20 archipelagos in this region. They are: Fiji islands, Hawaiian Islands, Samoa islands, Society Islands, Marquesas Islands, Caroline Islands, Mariana Islands, Santa Cruz Islands,Line Islands, Tonga Islands,Gilbert Islands,Cook Islands, Tubuai, Kermadec Islands,Phoenix Islands,Tuvalu and Tokelau Islands. The total coastline of these islands is 25,841.57 km long, and the total area of these islands is 47,850.92 km2. All of these islands have been and will continue to be affected by the large marine eco-systems, especially in the changes of ocean currents, El Nino and sea-level. The POISBND data are archived in both .kmz and .shp formats, the polygon and arc data have been archived in the .shp format separately. The total size of the data files is 87MB.
