Abstract:

Fractional Vegetation Cover (FVC) is defined as the percentage of the vertically projected vegetation area (including leaves, stalks, and branches) on the ground relative to the study area. It is an important parameter describing the Earth’s surface vegetation cover condition, and is also one of the important indicator of ecosystem changes. The FVC dataset with 5-day temporal sampling interval and 1-km spatial resolution is generated using the dimidiate pixel model. The based on the 1-km/5-day Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI) dataset provided by Multi-source data Synergized Quantitative remote sensing production system (MuSyQ) and NDVI to FVC transformation coefficients for different climate types, land cover and vegetation types, the Max Fractional Vegetation Cover Dataset in the Belt and Road and Surround Region (2015) (MuSyQ-MFVC-1km-2015 for short) was developed. The MuSyQ-MFVC-1km-2015 was calculated as the maximum value of FVC during the year of 2015 in the Belt and Road and Surround Region ranges from 0 to 1. There is no vegetation covered when MFVC is 0, and the higher value of MFVC presents a better degree of vegetation coverage. The spatial distribution pattern of MFVC is related to the vegetation types. MFVC of forest is generally higher than 0.95, MFVC of farmland is between 0.7-0.95, MFVC of tropical grassland is higher than 0.9, and MFVC of grassland in the tropical desert and the alpine meadow are less than 0.5. The MuSyQ-MFVC-1km-2015 dataset consists of a data file (MuSyQ-MFVC-1km-2015.tif) and a header file (MuSyQ-MFVC-1km-2015.tfw) with the Sinusoidal projection. The MuSyQ-MFVC-1km-2015 dataset was archived in .tif data format with the data size of 2.66 MB and 112 MB in compressed.
