Abstract:
The tiny Nassau Island is part of Northern Cook Islands in Pacific Ocean. It is located at the 88 km southeast of the Pukapuka Atoll. Its geo-location is between 165°24′30″W and 165°25′19″W, 11°33′17″S and 11°33′59″S. The Nassau Island is the only one of the Northern Cook Islands without a lagoon. Its area is 1.23 km² and its coastline is 4.21 km. The Nassau Island’s administration is the local government of Pukapuka. The island is rich in taro, coconut and fruit groves, the fruit groves cover more than 80% of the land area. There is a freshwater spring in the island. Only one settlement called Kikao village locates in the southwest of the island. There is no airport; transportation by ship is the only way to in or out of the island. The landscape of the island is circle based, besides the fruit groves, a sandy beach in 10-20 m wide around the land, and about 100 m (90-130m) wide reef flat surrounding the sandy beach. It is called as a tiny Garden of Eden. The dataset was developed based on the Google Earth and related maps and references. The dataset is consisted of 23 data files and archived in the .kmz and shp data format with the data size of 104 KB (Compressed to 45.1 KB in three files).
