Abstract:

The Greenland is located northeast of North America, between the Arctic and Atlantic oceans, east of the Canadian Arctic Archipelago. Greenland is the world’s largest island, and three-quarters of Greenland is covered by the ice-snow. It belongs to the Kingdom of Denmark. Its geo-location is 59°44′42″N-83°39′46″N, 73°15′13″W-11°20′11″W. There are a total of 27,388 small islands, isles and independent rocks in this area, and the main island is the Greenland, with other big islands such as Disko, Arve-Prinsens, Ubekendt Ejland, and Ile De France islands. The area of the Greenland is 2,112448.97 km² and the coastline of it is 49,200.82 km. The total area of the Greenland and small islands and isles around it is 2,162,184.19 km², and the coastline is 92,990.05 km. From June 1888 to April 1889, Dr. Fridtjof Wedel-Jarlsberg Nansen (1861.10.10-1930.05.13), well-known Norwegian polar experts and geographers, successfully crossed the Greenland, and he was the first one who crossed Greenland and research on the Eskimo people in the world. The dataset was developed based on the Google Earth and related maps and references. The dataset is consisted of 15 data files and archived in the .kmz and .shp data formats with the data size of 418 MB (Compressed to 175 MB in two files).
