Abstract:

Rock magnetic analyses were conducted on marine greigite-bearing samples of Hole U1433A (12°55.1380′N, 115°2.8345′E)from IODP Expedition 349 to study the mechanism of gyro-remanent magnetization (GRM). Based on the ratio of dGRM and dNRM (dGRM/dNRM, above 0), the samples containing greigite were identified. Alternating field (AF) demagnetization on natural remanent magnetization (NRM), anhysteretic remanent magnetization (ARM), saturation isothermal remanent magnetization (SIRM) and measurement of thermal demagnetization (TD) of the GRM were carried out using a 2G Enterprises Rapid System. IRM acquisition, magnetic hysteresis loops and first-order reversal curves (FORC) diagrams were measured with a vibrating sample magnetometer Model VSM 3900 Magnetometer. Besides, comparative trial of the above measuring was applied between the samples in room temperature and the cooling samples after first heated to 400 degrees centigrade. Then the experiment dataset on gyro-remanent magnetization acquired by marine greigite-bearing sediments of Hole IODP U1433A was developed. The dataset was archived in .xlsx and .frc data formats. In which, the .xlsx format data files include: ①The ratio of dGRM and dNRM; ②The acquisition of GRM and its thermal demagnetization; ③AF demagnetization of samples cooling after first heated to 400 degree; ④The data of Bcr, Ms and GRM; ⑤IRM for samples in room temperature; ⑥ IRM for samples after first heated to 400 degrees centigrid; ⑦AF demagnetization on NRM, ARM and GRM of 12 samples in room temperature; the .frc format data files include FORCs for selected samples in room temperature, and for cooling samples after first heated to 400 degrees centigrade. The dataset is consisted of nine data files with data size of 4.02 MB (Compressed to one single data file with data size of 1.56 MB).
