Pingshun is characterized by the warm temperate and the semi-humid continental monsoon climate, its annual sunshine is as 2783 hours as long. The Pingshun’ traditional product is Codonopsis pilosula. The soil is slightly alkaline with a pH of 7.57±0.59. The soil is rich in organic matter, nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium, the surface soil organic matter is reached at 22.26±5.16 g/kg, total nitrogen is 1.43±0.33 g/kg, available phosphorus is 26.68±14.72 mg/kg, and exchangeable potassium is 192.55±72.04 mg/kg. The growth of Codonopsis pilosula relies on natural precipitation. The content of syringin, lobetyolin, polysaccharides, and atractylenolide III in the sample were 0.046±0.008 mg/g, 0.626±0.027 mg/g, 159.158±16.726 mg/g, and 0.076±0.008 mg/g, respectively. In 2023, Pingshun County had a population of 148,100 and a GDP of 3.21 billion CNY, with Codonopsis pilosula cultivation covering 17.73 km², producing 2940 tons valued at 2.94 billion CNY. The GIES case dataset on Pingshun Codonopsis pilosula in southern Taihang Mountain is consisted of: (1) boundary data of the case area; (2) physical geography data (including topography, climate, water, soil, land use and NDVI); (3) characteristics data of Codonopsis pilosula; (4) operation and management data; (5) socio-economy data; (6) photos. The dataset is archived in .xlsx, .shp, .tif, .jpg, .txt and .docx formats, and consists of 81 data files with data size of 157 MB (Compressed into 1 file with 70.8 MB).
