Abstract:

Bosten Lake is located in Bayingolin Mongolian Autonomous Prefecture, Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, China. It is between 41°45′08″N and 42°15′10″N, 86°19′50″E and 87°24′50″E, located at the southern foot of Tianshan Mountain. The elevation of Bosten Lake is 1052.50 m (East Branch Inlet of Baolangsumu Diversion Gate) - 1047.77 m (Lianhua Gate outlet), and the average elevation is 1046.6 m. Bosten Lake is the largest inland freshwater lake in China, with an average depth of 7.5 m and a maximum depth of 16 m. The main source of water of Bosten Lake is the Kaidu River, which provides about 80% of the total water recharge. The Lianhua Gate outlet is the dividing line between Bosten Lake and Kongque River, which is also the initiation of Kongque River. The Bosten Lake basin is the catchment area of the Kaidu River, the Huangshuigou River, the Qingshui River and other water systems, and belongs to the Kaidu-Kongchu River basin. The area of Bosten Lake is 1563.27 km² (Albers projection, 2015) and the perimeter is 623.41 km (Lambert projection). The water system in the Bosten Lake basin includes Kaidu River, Huangshugou River, Qingshui River and Ulastai River. The lengths of their main streams are 592.58 km, 108.90 km, 89.67 km, and 83.15 km, respectively. The annual water intake of Bosten Lake is 26.13 x 108m3 (2015), and the annual outflow and inflow of the Kongque River is 11.53 x 108m3. The dataset was developed based on Google earth images in 2015. It includes: (1) the boundary data of the Bosten Lake Basin; (2) the water system data; (3) the Bosten Lake; (4) water inflow and outflow of Bosten Lake from 1991 to 2020. The dataset is archived in .kmz, .shp and .xlsx data formats, and consists of 44 data files with data size of 37.30 MB (compressed to 4 files with 18.5 MB).
