Abstract:

Tonga Islands, also called Friendly Islands, is the archipelago of the kingdom of Tonga. It is separated 680 km from the Viti Island in its west, and 420 km from the Niua in its east, in the Oceania and western of South Pacific Ocean. The geo-location of the Tonga Islands is between 15°33′59″S and 22°20′56″S, 173°44′12″W and 176°13′06″W. It consists of 238 islands, including Tongatapu Group, Ha’apai Group, Vava’u Group (The area of the minimum island is 96 m². Submerged reefs are excluded). These islands extend in a line about 753.20 km from south to north. In the Tonga Islands, the three largest islands are Tongatapu Island, Vava’u Island and Eua Island with area of 270.23 km², 97.64 km², and 90.66 km², separately. The total area of the Tonga Islands is 741.64 km², and the perimeter of the islands is 940.57 km. The dataset was developed based on Google Earth images around 2015. The dataset is archived in .kmz and .shp data formats, and consists of 15 data files with data size of 4.25 MB (compressed into 2 files with 2.86 MB).
