Abstract:

Gyaring Lake is located in the source of Yellow River Valley, and is a huff and puff type of freshwater lake in the Maduo County of Qinghai province, China. Gyaring Lake, also known as the Gyaring sea, is called zaaro in Tibetan language, because the Yellow River carries a large amount of sediment into the lake, the lake is gray white when the wind and waves rise, the Tibetan language is "Gray White Lake". In the Middle Pleistocene and the Huoleum Lake was a single Lake, until late Pleistocene, it was completely separated into two sister lakes: Gyaring Lake and Ngoring Lake. In 1997, the State Council formally designated the two lakes as "west Gyaring and East Ngoring". Its geo-location is between 34°49′08″N and 35°01′37″N, 97°01′27″E and 97°30′04″E. There are eleven islands in the lake, in which three big islands in the northwestern are named "West three islands". Because there are more than 60 white lipped deer inhabiting, they are also named "deer islands". North island is the largest one among these islands, its area is 1.35 km², and the shoreline is 5.18 km; the area of the middle island is 0.86 km², its shoreline is 4.28 km. The south island is 0.41 km² and the shoreline is 2.60 km. The total area of Gyaring Lake is 542.33 km² with the shoreline of 232.20 km long, and the elevation is 4293 m above sea level. The dataset is developed based on the Google Earth images (2015) and the referenced maps. The dataset is consisted of 22 data files, archived in both .kmz and .shp data formats with the data size of 6.69 MB (compressed to 2.29 MB in two files).
