Abstract:

The Empirical Orthogonal Function (EOF) quality control(QC) dataset in Variation data assimilation systems is based on every 3 hours automatic weather station data in January and July of 2008 covering China and its surround area from 0 to70°N and 55 to 145°E. The dataset adopts EOF QC method that is introduced to WRF Variation data assimilation system and gives the EOF QC results and its applications in Variation data assimilation. The dataset includes 63 data files archived in 10 folders and 1 list file (ReadMe.doc). The data folders are: (1) 2m air temperature fields from original observations and EOF rebuild terms at 09:00 27 January 2008 and the correlation coefficients between original observations and EOF rebuild terms from 27 January to 28 January 2008. (2) The spatial bi-weighted standard deviation of difference of 2m air temperature EOF rebuild terms from 20 January to 28 January. (3) 2m air temperature spatial distributions of observations and background fields and the differences between them for data before QC, after EOF QC and after OMB QC in January 2008. (4) Surface station data with quality control mark in January 2008. (5) 2 m air temperature analysis filed from EOF-QC, OMB-QC (observations minus background quality control) and differences between them at 12:00 on 27 January 2008. (6) Temperature and wind fields from EOF-QC and the difference between EOF-QC and OMB-QC on the12th model level at 00:00 on 28, 12:00 on 28 and 00:00 on 29 January 2008. (7) The 24 h rainfalls from 00:00 28 January to 00:00 29 January for five numerical tests. (8) The 24 h rainfalls from 00:00 14 July 2008 to 00:00 15 July 2008 for five numerical tests. (9) The forecast bias and root mean square error of 2 m temperature varies with time during assimilating time (00:00 27 January 2008 to 00:00 28 January 2008) and forecasting time (00:00 28 January 2008 to 00:00 29 January 2008). (10) ETS scores of 6h precipitation from 00:00 28 January 2008 to 00:00 29 January 2008 and from 00:00 14 July 2008 to 00:00 15 July 2008 greater than 1 mm, 5 mm and 10 mm. The dataset is archived in .grd, .txt, .xlsx, .doc formats with the compressed data size of 22.9MB. Analysis paper based on the dataset published in Acta Meteorologica Sinica, No. 4, Vol. 73, 2015.
