Abstract:

Yunnan Province, located in Southwest China, is subject to the threat of drought in recent years. In this study, the authors adopted the Standardized Precipitation Evapotranspiration Index (SPEI) which was improved by Vicente-Serrano et al. based on the standardized precipitation index to analyze the drought dynamics in Yunnan. The monthly meteorological data extracted from the selected 32 weather stations from 1998 to 2012 were used to calculate SPEI at 3, 6, 12, and 24 months scale. After that, the dataset of SPEI in Yunnan Province is established by these monthly SPEI data. The results revealed that SPEI3, SPEI6, SPEI12 and SPEI24 showed a decreasing trend, which demonstrated the regional drought was gradually strengthened. The dataset consists of two parts: (1) geolocation of each of the 32 stations; (2) the SPEI data of each station. The dataset is archived in .kmz, .shp and .xlsx formats with the compressed data size of 212 KB. The analysis paper based on the dataset was published in the journal of Acta Ecologica Sinica, NO.15, Vol.36, 2016.
