Abstract:
Liuhe County is located in the transitional zone from the Changbai Mountains to the Songliao Plain, featuring four geological types: mountains, hills, lava tablelands, and river valley basins. Its volcanic "slab land" resources make it one of China's main production areas for rice grown on volcanic ash substrate. The case study area covers 3,348 km². Liuhe County administers 3 subdistricts, 12 towns, 3 townships, and 219 administrative villages, with a population of approximately 340,000. Rice cultivation in Liuhe County began in the early Tang Dynasty, serving as a cultural symbol integrating northeastern farming traditions with medicinal and dietary wisdom. The study area has a northern temperate continental monsoon climate, with an annual mean temperature of 4.95 ºC and average annual precipitation of 981 mm. Surface soil samples collected from the study area show pH values ranging from 5.36 to 6.26, total nitrogen content of 1.69-2.71 g/kg, total phosphorus of 0.76-1.21 g/kg, and total potassium of 18.28-24.57 g/kg. The soil is also rich in trace elements, including iron (31,425-36,376 mg/kg) and manganese (368-828 mg/kg), which are crucial for rice growth, development, yield quality, and stress tolerance. Heavy metal contents in the soil are below the national standard limits (GB 15618—2018). Water quality was assessed using eleven samples collected from Liuhe County, measuring pH, total soluble salt content (electrical conductivity at 25 ºC), and 18 elements including magnesium, phosphorus, and potassium. The pH values range from 6.99 to 7.57, and the electrical conductivity (25 ºC) ranges from 90.5 to 420 μS/cm. Furthermore, the concentrations of all detected hazardous substances (heavy metals and metalloids) are far below the limits set by the national standard for irrigation water quality (GB 5084—2021). Heavy metal contents in volcanic ash-substrate rice are significantly lower than the limits specified in the national food safety standard for contaminants in food (GB 2762—2022, including Amendment No. 1), while the rice is rich in calcium, potassium, phosphorus, magnesium, manganese, iron, zinc, cobalt, selenium, and other elements. The calcium content is 76.1 mg/kg, and the iron content is 4.09 mg/kg. In 2025, the total rice output reached 112 million kg, the county’s GDP was 9.23 billion CNY, of which the rice output value was 291 million CNY, accounting for 3.15%. The case dataset includes location data, physical geographical data, rice variety characteristics data, management data, photos, and images. The dataset is archived in .shp, .tif, .xlsx, .docx, and .jpg formats, and consists of 67 files with data size of 79.3 MB (compressed into 1 file with 39.8 MB).
