Abstract:

The Datasets from the sub-seasonal forecast for the low frequency rainfall over the lower reaches of the Yangtze River valley on the time scale of 50 to 80 d was developed based on the observational data of daily rainfall from the average of 25 stations over the lower reaches of the Yangtze River valley (LYRV). Not only, it also was integrated with the reanalysis data of the global 850 hPa zonal winds from the NCEP/National Center for Atmospheric Research (NCAR) (2.5° x 2.5° ) from 1979 to 2014 by the empirical orthogonal function (EOF) method and singular spectrum analysis (SSA). The datasets of the sub-seasonal forecast were given on the establishing an extended complex autoregressive model (ECAR). A 14-year hind cast was conducted on the sub-seasonal forecast of low-frequency component of the rainfall in the LYRV from 2001 to 2014. These experimental results indicated that the ECAR model of a 50 to 80 day low-frequency component of the rainfall in the LYRV had a good forecast skill at the lead time of approximately 52 days, with a forecast ability far superior to the traditional autoregressive (AR) model. And, the forecast skill of ECAR is much better from June to August. The datasets consist of 8 data tables which contain the 50 - 80 day low frequency component of PC1 to PC7 for the global 850 hPa zonal winds, along with the daily rainfall in the LYRV, for the period from 1 January 1979 to 31 December 2014 (13,149 days). The datasets are archived in the .xls file with data size of 1.19MB. Based on the dataset, an analysis paper has been published at the journal of Acta Meteorologica Sinica, Vol. 74, No. 4, 2016.
